When Tell Sackett rode into Mexico, he believed he was riding to rescue young Orry Sackett from Apache Indians, risking his life and the lives of three companions in the effort. He knew his brother, Orrin, had married, but he did not know he had a son until Orrin's wife, Laura Pritt Sackett, told him so. But Orrin was back in Washington, D.C., so it was up to Tell and his friends to save the boy. Little did Tell know that Orrin and Laura's marriage had ended before the child was conceived. Angry at being exposed for the evil woman she was, Laura saw a way to get back at Orrin by sending his brother out into the desert on a wild goose chase to be killed by Indians. She succeeded in getting Tell's friends killed, but he managed to survive the harsh elements, the Indians, and a lynch mob. Disgusted with Laura, he left her in the middle of the desert. The last he saw of the woman, she was trying to mount a nervous horse. Time period: 1875-1879.
