Seventeen of the best-known stories from the New Testament are set out with the masterpieces they inspired, including those by Botticelli, Crivelli, Rubens, and Tintoretto, to name a few. Words and images combine to create a powerful yet graceful version of the New Testament, one that is unique from other texts. In addition to the stories and accompanying paintings, an index of the paintings is provided at the end of the book, which includes biographical information on the artists and the context of the paintings, most of which are drawn from the National Gallery in London.
